The move marks Coca-Cola's first foray into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), showcasing iconic artworks alongside new creations from emerging artists.
Coca-Cola has chosen to launch its “MasterPiece” NFT collection on the recently introduced Coinbase Ethereum layer-2 network “Base”. The renowned global beverage giant is solidifying its presence in the world of non-fungible tokens, marking its inaugural venture into this digital realm via the Coinbase layer-2 network.
Coinbase made the announcement on August 13, disclosing the arrival of the Coca-Cola collection as part of its "Onchain Summer" – a multi-week onchain festival celebrating onchain art, culture, music, gaming, and more.
The Masterpiece collection unites iconic artworks such as "The Scream" by Edvard Munch and "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer with new works from emerging talents, “all intertwined with the iconic Coca-Cola® bottle.”
With this transformation into onchain collectibles, these works acquire an entirely new dimension, rendering them accessible to art enthusiasts participating in the Onchain Summer event.
Coca-Cola’s 'MasterPiece' goes beyond an art collection, symbolizing the dynamic fusion of art, technology, and human interaction. Surpassing the confines of a conventional art gallery, the collection extends its significance globally.
Coca-Cola's entry into NFTs stands as one of the notable engagements by major consumer brands with Base thus far, blazing a trail for other brands to explore innovative ways of connecting in our modern digital era.
