Coinbase Enters the Fray

Coinbase, a leading US crypto exchange, looks to venture into the Non-Fungible Token (NFT) space, bringing its millions of users.

In an official announcement, Coinbase confirmed their upcoming NFT marketplace as well as their intention to have a huge impact on the industry.Sanchan Saxema, VP of Product, Ecosystem at Coinbase announced the news on October 12th via the CoinBase blog.

“Today, we’re announcing Coinbase NFT, a peer-to-peer marketplace that will make minting, purchasing, showcasing, and discovering NFTs easier than ever.” The post explained, “Just as Coinbase helped millions of people access Bitcoin for the first time in an easy and trusted way- we want to do the same for the NFTs.”

By mentioning the ‘millions of people’ they have helped, Coinbase gave a clear indication of the kind of numbers they are dealing with on a daily basis and the power they will yield in the NFT market.

Customer Criticism

Those millions of people they refer to however have not all been best pleased with the service they have received, as was made evident in a recent CNBC segment.

In the segment, customers who had had their accounts tampered with and couldn’t get through to any kind of live phone support were left exasperated. A particular couple lost several thousand dollars of savings prior to receiving any kind of support from Coinbase.

The cryptocurrency giant claimed in August that they had prepared a number that customers could contact, but, as was revealed in the news segment, the response from the number seems to direct customers back to email contact.

Customer service has been a general problem within the crypto industry, and Coinbase will not be the first organization to attempt to tackle this, but they’ll be wary of its importance as they draw closer to the launch of their new NFT marketplace.
