5 Facts About Aptos During its First 2 Months Since Launch

Aptos has had an exciting 2 months since the launch of its mainnet. Here are 5 facts about the new blockchain, inlcuding performance, top holders and NFTs.
The much-hyped Aptos blockchain launched almost two months ago, earning praise from supporters and drawing criticisms from skeptics.
Aptos is the first blockchain-based on Facebook’s Move programming language and scrapped stablecoin project Diem.
Here, we give you five facts about the performance of Aptos since its launch, derived from the TraceMove blockchain explorer by NodeReal.
On Oct. 19, Aptos’ native coin, $APT, first traded at $13.73. Currently, the value of $APT is $4.83. That’s a decline of 65%.
However, according to CoinMarketCap, $APT is up 34% from its all-time low reached on Nov. 9. Due to coin emissions, the current market cap of $APT ($628 million) is “only” down by 37% since launch.
Since the launch of mainnet, the Aptos chain has processed 46.7 million transactions, with daily transactions holding steady at just above 600,000 for the past two weeks.
According to TraceMove, Aptos has averaged 7.7 transactions per second (TPS), which is far below the promised maximum speed of 160,000 TPS. However, since the launch, Aptos developers have countered TPS criticism by saying that the actual TPS is so much lower than the maximum TPS because there isn’t enough activity on the network yet to test the chain’s limits.
Centralized Exchange Binance is one of the largest holders of Aptos coin, with 16.4 million $APT in a wallet that TraceMove labels as “Binance.”
That’s nearly 13% of the total $APT in circulation.
By comparison, a wallet attributed to the “OKX” exchange holds 2.1 million $APT , less than 2% of the circulating supply.
More than 2.6 million addresses currently contain Aptos coins. Most of the other popular tokens on Aptos are either stablecoins or wrapped native coins from other blockchains, such as Ethereum and Solana.
However, Aptos-specific tokens like $MOJO and $APTOGE are also among the top tokens, according to number of holders, as well as liquid versions of $APT by staking platforms such as Tortuga and Ditto.
Aptos has seen plenty of Non-Fungible Token (NFT) activity, with TraceMove listing hundreds of NFT collections with a significant number of transactions.
The top NFT collections on TraceMove’s list are Aptos Monkeys, Bruh Bears, AptoPunks, Aptos Undead, Aptos Toad Overload, Aptos Land Genesis, Aptos Dragons, VORP Pass, Aptomingos and Aptos Rats.
Aptos is a new, independent project focused on delivering the safest and most production-ready Layer 1 blockchain in the world. The team includes the original creators, researchers, designers, and builders of Diem, the blockchain that was first built to serve this purpose.
