The initial votes to deploy on the EVM-compatible zk-rollups passed with practically unanimous approval.

Aave Eyes zkEVM Rollups

The Aave community has given early, but nearly unanimous, approval to move ahead with proposals to deploy the major lending protocol to a pair of EVM-compatible zk-rollups. Two separate proposals to bring Aave to Polygon zkEVM and zkSync Era mainnets easily passed preliminary “temperature check” votes.

Polygon zkEVM

In late March, the Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) passed a proposal to look more deeply into launching an “MVP” version of Aave V3 on Polygon zkEVM mainnet.

The proposal from Mark Zeller of the Aave-Chan Initiative notes that Aave had been deployed on the testnet since last October. The MVP version under consideration would offer only three collaterals – $WETH, $WMATIC and $USDC – and one borrowable asset – $USDC – to reduce risk exposure.

The proposal “should be considered as a "temperature check" that would allow development and risk service providers to conduct a deeper analysis of the zkEVM network,” according to snapshot.org.

zkSync Era

More recently, the DAO passed a similar “temperature check” proposal from Flipside Crypto to deploy Aave V3 on zkSync Era mainnet. The community had previously voted to deploy Aave on the zkEVM’s testnet, as well.

“zkSync has the potential to benefit the Aave ecosystem by introducing new users into DeFi, and cementing Aave as the premier borrowing platform within this growing zk ecosystem. zkSync would benefit from having a flagship DeFi project like Aave on its platform, further diversifying and growing the DeFi options available to its users,” according to snapshot.org.

The proposed version of Aave on zkSync Era would initially feature only two assets – $WETH and $USDC.
